Reference:
INSARAG was established in 1991 following the initiative of the international search and rescue teams that participated in the disaster relief assistance operation after the earthquake in Armenia in 1988 and Mexico in 1985.
The main purpose of INSARAG is to assist in coordinating actions among various SAR teams that respond internationally to emergencies associated with collapse of buildings and structures, usually caused by earthquakes. The group reaches this level of coordination by ensuring the interaction of responding units before the emergencies occur. Different kinds of specialist working meetings are the framework for practical arrangements; it promotes the process of interaction in response to real disasters and catastrophes.
