The Ukrainian rescue team demonstrated exceptional skills at the EU MODEX Cycle 12 international training exercise in Poland, rescuing 10 people from under the rubble. This result confirms the high level of training and readiness of our specialists for the most difficult challenges.

During intensive training sessions that took place this week in Poland, our rescuers worked around the clock to hone the key skills needed to work effectively in emergency situations. These include:

· coordination with international teams and application of EU civil protection algorithms;

· working in confined spaces and at heights;

· providing emergency medical care, including amputations in the field;

· responding to injuries to colleagues;

· working with canine units.

Separate training sessions were held for the veterinarian accompanying the canine units, emphasising the comprehensive approach to training.

The Ukrainian team also held meetings with representatives of the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations Directorate-General, which promotes further integration and cooperation.

During his working visit to Poland, Andriy Danik, Head of the State Emergency Service, personally visited the Ukrainian team together with his Polish colleagues to familiarise himself with the conditions and progress of the training.

‘Training is undoubtedly important, as it gives us the opportunity to improve our interaction with EU rescue teams. But I know for sure that you are the best, as you prove every day through your hard work in Ukraine,’ said Andriy Danik.

Just a reminder that this week in Poland, 51 State Emergency Service specialists and 9 specialised vehicles are taking part in EU MODEX CYCLE 12 training exercises, which are being held as part of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. The Ukrainian team at the training exercises is represented by the EU-certified module ‘Search and rescue operations in urban areas’.

The training has brought together about 500 participants from different European countries. In addition to the Ukrainian team, rescue modules from Austria, Germany, Poland and France are also participating. This promotes the exchange of experience, the development of common approaches to emergency response and is an important element in the preparation of the rescue team for international re-certification, which will take place in September 2025.
